Local hospital services are provided by Lake Butler Hospital/Hand Surgery Center. A local public health unit is maintained by the county in cooperation with the state. The county also provides an excellent emergency ambulance and rescue service.

 Emergency helicopters from Shands Teaching Hospitals and Shands at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville are available for emergency transportation.
